Donna D. Smith Selected As D8 TAOY

District 8 Education and Human Relations Chair, Sandy Clark, is pleased to announce that Donna D. Smith has been selected as the NCATA-District 8 Teacher Assistant of the Year. In order to be selected teacher assistants must put together a portfolio, and go for an interview with their District EHR Committee. District winners are selected from among county winners.who run for District Teacher Assistant of the Year. Smith is now one of eight district finalists who will interview February 20, 2016 for the chance to be selected as NCATA-North Carolina Teacher Assistant of the Year.

Donna Smith is employed by the Buncombe County School System as a teacher assistant. She has spent the past twenty-one years educating the students at Weaverville Primary. Of those 21 she has spent 18 years in kindergarten, and 3 years in first grade. By far she enjoys working with kindergarten the most because it gives her the opportunity to lay a foundation that will start each student on the course of their educational career. During her time as an assistant she has been an active member of the local, district, and state associations. Serving as County President over the past four years has given her the opportunity to be a voice for teacher assistants and their importance in our schools. In addition to her service with NCATA, she is active in her church, community, and with Relay for Life. Donna is the wife of Mike Smith, and together they have two beautiful children. Mrs. Smith believes that educating children is the most important job that anyone could have, and that all children are capable of learning at their own pace.
